If you have just read about the causes of coming over the top the obvious question is what can you do to overcome them now?

The Answer – Swing Plane

That’s right, swing plane. It’s the path your club travels in each and every golf swing.

Why am I making such a big deal out of …well… geometry?

What if I told you…

The main reason the average golfer is average is because he or she doesn’t maintain the correct swing plane
or that…

The ability to keep the swing on the proper plane is the main difference between the low handicap golfer and the high handicapper.

Believe it or not – It’s true!

If you’re not swinging on-plane, that’s probably the reason you’re hitting all those fats and thins, slices and hooks.

And, worse still, it’s why you can’t put all your power into your shots. Because the harder you try the worse the problem becomes.

There’s just 2 things you can do. No, there is actually 3!

Listen to all the advice from your buddies and just soldier on

Get the new Swing Plane DVD now!

But, if you do nothing else, watch this video!

Follow the plane truth in the Swing Plane DVD

But the Swing Plane DVD is something that will get your swing on-plane and take your swing to the next level.

I know that for a lot of average golfers getting the swing plane right isn’t exactly an obsession or their first priority. Maybe it sounds too much like hard work.

And, after all, golf is supposed to be fun, right?

Well, if shooting in the hundreds year after year and spending four hours in absolute frustration every weekend is fun, then maybe they’re on to something.

But, I and you know, you’re not content to be just another average golfer. Otherwise you wouldn’t be here reading this.

And you’ve probably already come to the conclusion…

You’ll never be the golfer you could be until you learn to consistently swing on-plane.

Fortunately, that’s not nearly as hard as you might think. The best teaching pros have been helping people play better golf for a good many years and have learned a thing or two about teaching.

Now, the whole swing plane thing is complicated. But the DVD breaks the whole process down into simple, easy-to-learn steps.

But, there’s no way you’ll be expected to learn everything at once. Once you get one step down, you move on to the next and so on.

One swing does fit all!

Nor are you going to be asked to learn a different swing for every club in your bag. It’s one swing and one swing only. That’s the only one you have to learn. The beauty of the right swing is that it’s automatically self-adjusting to whatever club you pick up.

And, you won’t just be shown and left to get on with it, either. You will get some real and simple practice drills that will help “burn in” the techniques until they become second nature and part of your game.

It’s proven to work! It’s worked for others! It WILL work for you!

The short answer is No!

That seems to fly in the face of logic; the more you practice the better you get, don’t you?

Well, no, not if your practicing the wrong thing!

Einstein: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Don’t think he was talking about golf necessarily, but true all the same.

No point going to the range or the practice area of the course and repeatedly rehearsing your slice, hook or shank expecting it to improve without making any changes!

Gary Player, when asked if he felt he was lucky replied saying “yes, the more I practice the luckier I get”!

The obvious difference is that when he practiced, he practiced perfecting an already solid game be that off the tee, around the greens or on them.

The other problem is, of course, that few club and weekend golfers ever practice at all and try to cure their game in the middle of it and worse still, sometimes even during a medal round.

And, that’s never likely to make the difference needed to lower their handicap! The very opposite!

So, from Tee to Green and on it too there is a help available to solve the problem you have:-

Improve your Driving

Improve your Pitching

Improve your Putting

Improve your Short Game

Improve your Bunker Shots

Beat those Trouble Shots

So, before your next practice or even your first, spend some of the cash spent on lost balls, on a lesson or two from your pro or get one of the Golf DVD collection from PurePoint Golf that are proven to make a difference and stick with until it improves.

And, it will!

Stop coming over the top and lower your handicap

Coming over the top is just one of the many widespread swing action faults experienced by your average weekend golf player.

It’s what leads to the majority of slices, shanks and pulls making it almost impossible to lower high golf handicaps.

STOP COMING OVER THE TOP NOW!

Learn the system that has helped thousands of golfers from all over the world drop their handicaps by 7 strokes or more.

In short, it’s about using the spine as an axis to promote consistency and to keep you on the correct swing plane.

You’ll learn the correct hand action so that you can add distance to every shot.

You’ll learn the correct timing to get straight ball flight, and consistent direction.

Unfortunately, coming over the top is more than simply an occasional problem for many saturday or sunday golfers.

You continually hear about how coming over the top is the number one flaw of weekend players, although you are not always conscious you are doing it when you aren’t able to observe your own swing

But it’s never too late to take action

The key point to fixing the condition of coming over the top is to first have an understanding of exactly why it happens.

The importance of Swing!

Maintaining the path of the club head through and to impact with the golf ball is the major solution to developing a good golf swing action .

Starting the swing action with a rotatation of the shoulders in advance of moving the arms in the direction of the target is usually the primary reason of an over the top or an outside to in swing action.

When the downswing path or plane is above, or over, the optimum plane it results in the path of the clubhead on impact to strike the ball from right to left (for a right-handed golfer) along the target line.

Coming over the top returns the club head from the top of the swing on a path outside the target line and invariably too steep to achieve the ball direction and flight wanted.

Swing quickness contributes to coming over the top and often caused by the common fault of trying to hit the ball farther than you are able with the choosen club. Many, if not most, weekend golfers are guilty of under-clubbing almost every shot!

Attempting to hit the ball with maximum power or attempting to correct an out-to-in downswing the swing position is often adjusted with a loss of swing control.

If the in-out path becomes excessive, it causes your swing to break down resulting in a very unpredictable ball flight.

There are generally two forms it can take:-

Excessive tilting of the spine on downswing taking it away from the target line

Spine drifts toward the ball on the downswing.

In both cases the downswing path will tend to follow an excessively in-out path. The result is the golfer is forced to make an attempt to correct and realign the club face with the ball.

The same result will occur if you lunge forward with your upper body when you start your downswing.

The Backswing

The lower body should be the foundation for the upper body during the backswing.

The two most common flaws and errors in the backswing is leaving too much weight on left, leading leg (right leg for left-handers) at the top end of backswing and starting the take away of the club too flat.

The natural tendency and an almost inevitable result of having most of your weight on your forward leg at the top of backswing is it being transferred on to the right leg when you start the downswing.

When the club face is left open at the top of the backswing, the natural reaction is to swing to the left (over the top) to get the club face back square at impact. In order to keep the clubface in the correct plane the club needs to taken back more steeply in the backswing.

Excessive quickness in the backswing is a real swing wrecker.

The object of the backswing is to enable you to set up your backswing in the most efficient way to deliver the correct impact with the ball. Once at the top of your backswing you start the downswing leading with your arms and hands you are setting up the typical situation of hitting from the top.

The Downswing

The tendency to come over the top is one that is common to almost all average club higher handicap golfers. Coming over the top means that the downswing plane of the club is outside the plane of the club going back.

Downswing path problems can be caused by a variety of reasons.

An effective downswing begins with a smooth and controlled speed of movement with the hips and shoulders leading the charge and pulling the arms and club head towards the ball. An excessively quick downswing disrupts stable weight distribution and causes no end of problems.

The tendency to lean backwards in the downswing is the normal response to this shift in weight distribution. When you shift weight into your back leg at the beginning of the downswing, the club will be thrown out and over the top.

Instead of bringing your hands back inside on the downswing it results in you moving your hands outside of the swing plane and coming down across the ball resulting in a pulled or sliced shot.

Maintaining or moving your weight distribution on your left leg (right-handed golfers) on the downswing keeps the club head on the inside and in the correct strike plane.

Generally, golfers coming over the top have very little other options they can take as it is a natural reaction in an effort to control the swing action started with the backswing and makes it a very difficult problem to overcome.

Quickness in both back and down swing errors are caused, in the main, by:

attempting to hit the ball further than is either practical or possible

compensating for the faults caused by trying too hard

unrealistic expectations about how far they should be able hit the ball

the stress and frustration as a result of any or all of the above

The problem arises when the player tries to generate extra distance and swings the club either too fast in their backswing and downswing or too far in the backswing causing their swing rythum to break down.

The problem is further compounded as the average or recreational player practices less than lower handicap golfers and it is more likely their swing will be off-balance.

Coming over the top in almost all cases is caused by:-

bad/misaligned starting position

swinging too far on the inside on the backswing

in the downswing, shoulder/hips starting to rotate too early

It is important to remember that your starting setup & position has an impact on your backswing. In turn your backswing impacts on your downswing and your downswing influences your impact with the ball.

The backswing influences final impact as it is the starting point from which your downswing finally makes contact with the ball.

As players it is difficult knowing what it is we are actually doing in our swing and what we might imagine is happening is generally never the case.

It’s important that before making any major or even minor changes we make an effort to find out and there is no better time than NOW!

Might be a cliche but it’s still true! How often have you been just on the green in two with a par in sight and three putted or worse double-bogeyed?

It’s happened to us all and probably because we don’t practice enough!

We go to the range and hit ball after ball towards the 150 flag, 200 flag with 5, 6, 7 irons and longer with our woods then jump in the car and off home or even, maybe, to have a round.

But we never think of spending the same amount of time or effort on the putting green!

Next time make some extra time and practice your feel for putting on the practice greens that are at most driving ranges.

Too often we rush to the course, change and if we’re lucky might have enough time to putt a few times on the practice green before tee-off.

Go to the course 20 minutes earlier and take the time to practice your putting before each round.

Save a stroke on every hole?

Begin by taking just three balls and try to hit three putts from the same spot putting from a distance of two to three feet from the hole. Increase the distance throughout each practice session repeating the process for as long as you are there.

Keep in mind that it’s target golf or in this case target putting – that is, trying to get the ball no more than 6-10 inches past the hole not simply getting it in the hole or laying it up (that generally results in it being short).

We can try too hard sometimes going for the birdie rather than taking a two for par. If it drops well and good but otherwise you’ll have a certain par.

And, remember “If it’s not up, it’s not In”!

It’s not as difficult as we make it! Learn a simple technique that doesn’t require any extraordinary physical talent, yet consistently produces EXTRAORDINARY RESULTS!

You often hear non-golfers say that the game, we all love, is just a good walk spoilt. We know that is not true but is sometime feels it could be.

Unfortunately, we don’t always enjoy the 3 or 4 hours on the golf course as much as we would like.

No two rounds are the same and we rarely score the same score on each hole as regularly as needed to get our handicaps down.

But all is not lost…

There are things we can do the help, little things that can make the difference between the usual or average round and a good one.

I know and you know when you have struck the ball well and it’s not just where it ends up! It also feels different.

What we all need to do is identify how to feel that difference more often.

It is the little things, the routine before each shot, our setup, seeing what are obstacles to a good shot and developing a consistent swing with the confidence and knowledge to choose the right club and hit the right shot that can make the difference.
